Bad RIta

Here she is...now they are saying that she may go a little to the east of Houston/Galveston. But, if you turn it to another channel on the TV they say a different story. Mom said that the Houston channels are saying Galveston. Only God knows.

Love to my family....

In Harms Way...

It is a nice cool day here in Minneapolis, MN. That's where Mark and I have been since Sunday. He is here for a VA conference and I tagged along. I have never been here. The cost of living must be really high here because all the restaurants are sky high!!! Anyway, tonight I am going to finally get my sushi!!! Actually I had some on Monday at TIger Sushi at the Mall of America. Oh my goodness....that mall is unbelievable. Mark and I are going back on Saturday and SUnday. Then we will be going home.

Ok....my family, which consists of my parents, sister and brother-in-law, brother, neices, nephews, cousins, great nephew...basically ALL of my family are in Houston. My parents actually live 75 miles north of Houston, which is where everyone is going to head...or are already heading that way. My brother-in-law refuses to leave his liquor stores. Stupid. My sister asked him if he had ever been through a hurricane, and of course he said no and she said well, I have and the one that we went through was only a Cat 3. He told her that everyone is blowing this out of proportion. She said that she was not staying and that their son could live without one parent but not two. He has decided not to stay at their house though. He will be sleeping at one of the stores.

So I am waiting for my mom to get on the AOL Messenger so we can talk and I can see where everyone is. The traffic coming out of Houston is terrible. MOm said it is taking people 12 hours to get from Galveston, TX to Huntsville, TX which is about which is about 150 miles apart.

My brother Ricky works for Exxon in Baytown, TX which is a suburb of Houston. They are starting their shut-down today but it takes a long time. Hopefully they will be done by Friday but may not be. He is scared to death. He isn't worried about the wind but he is worried about the storm surge and drowning.

Just talked to my mom and everyone made it there. Neice and her husband and son took 7 hours to get there from a little suburb outside of Houston called Deer Park. It is usually about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive, on a good day.

So, please pray for the victims of Rita. She is going to be a nasty girl. I will let you know how it turns out. Just think...I was thinking about going down there this week while Mark was in Minn. Glad I didn't.

Take care!

And the verdict is????

Ok...we didn't have a cracked block. PTL!!! The mechanic says it was a blown gasket. He is also going to service the transmission. So, it will all add up to about $1,000.00. It should be finished maybe by this weekend. If not, then next week.

Jeremy got a job!!! He starts tomorrow. He is working at The Timbers Lodge here in Iron Mountain. He is going to be the night desk clerk. (11-7 shift) He is so happy. He was getting very depressed. Kinda like I was.

I am so tired. Yesterday morning we had to get up and be at the VA by 6. It was employee recognition day and Mark had to help deliver breakfasts to the employees that worked the night shift. I was working on center pieces for the tables for the lunch. It was the western theme and people loved it. So we worked our butts off. We left the VA at about 2:30 and went to the grocery store and got stuff for Mark's poker night. It was his turn to host and so we got home and cleaned up and I made cheese dip(log and a half of Velveeta, 2 cans Rotel tomatoes with chilis, 1 lb. hamburger, browned. Melt it all together in a crock pot and serve with tortilla chips...yumm!!) The guys loved it. We also had a meat and cheese tray, crackers and cookies. I think they enjoyed it. Mark lost $8.00 in the game though....oh well.

I guess that's all I have to say. I got my hair cut. Short. I don't have a picture to post yet. I will.

See ya!!

Happy Anniversary?

We decided to go to Marquette, MI which is about 50 min away and so we went up there and went out to eat at a place called Timberlodge. It was ok. We had wanted to try it and we did. That's over. Then we went to Target. I miss Target.

So, we got a late start, and the time zone changes up there so we decided to try and find a cheap motel. Well, they were having a Blues Festival up there and all the motels were booked. We stopped at one and Mark went in and someone had just cancelled. Wow...so we got a motel for $50.00 for a queen. Not bad. The only complaint I had was there was a wall beside the toilet and I barely fit in the area where the comode was. I don't think a thin person would have been comfortable there.

ANyway, so, we got up today and left and drove and saw a couple of lighthouses around Marquette. We also went to Michaels to get some stuff for the VA. So, we hadn't eaten yet and were starving.

We have had a leak in our radiator for a while. So, as we were driving to run to McDonalds on the way back home, the car went in less than 5 seconds, to boiling. We pulled over really quickly and the damage had been done. We blew a gasket. We were lucky, a man stopped and helped us and we limped to a service station that has a mechanic that this man has used regularly and he really thinks he is great so we left it there and called Jeremy to come up there and get us. That trip was fun back home. Anyway, so now tomorrow we get to find out how much it is going to cost us. Mark says it is going to be very expensive. His mom has already given us her credit card and is going to pay for it. Thanks mom!!

Anyway, so...happy anniversary. We actually had a great time until that happened.
Oh, we did get to eat, finally.

Bye!

Enjoy the pics below!

This is before we left to go out for our anniversary. What a great couple. Posted by Picasa

Mark on the breaker walls. There is a memorial at the beginning that says to be careful when the waves are up and the current is bad. People have been blown off, or knocked off by waves and drowned. Water was calm. Posted by Picasa

Me and Mark, sitting on a log.....we laughed so hard with Mark trying to get the timer to work on the camera. Memories. Posted by Picasa

LIghthouse in Marquette, MI. I forget the name. Shame on me. Anyway, it's on Lake Superior, although from this angle you can't see any water. Posted by Picasa

Happy Anniversary

Tomorrow is mine and Mark's 6th wedding anniversary. We are so in love. I have found the love of my life and I am so happy.

We met online. I had put a picture on a dating site and he wrote me the most beautiful e-mail. Normally, I wouldn't have answered his e-mail because he was shorter than me. But this e-mail was so great. I can't even remember what all it said but it was poetic and so nice. So, I e-mailed him back and the rest is history.

We got married September 3, 1999 at a Justice of the Peace with my parents, sister, brother, newphew, aunt and some of Mark's friends there. Sherryl, my sister stood up for me and Mark's friend Tom who works at the Houston VA and is in the reserves and has been over in Iraq but is back now, anyway, he stood up for Mark.

We honeymooned in San Antonio, TX and had a wonderful time. I think one of my fondest memories was when we got a yard glass of margarita to share and Mark got a little tipsy and very talkative!!! It was funny.

We also went to an Indian restaurant in San Antonio and Mark got something with curry in it and took one bite and almost passed out. That's how we know that Mark is allergic. I thought I was going to have to rush my new husband to the emergency room.

Anyway, for the next two years we went to San Antonio for our anniversaries. Then we just stayed in our area and had a great dinner and a movie.

Last year we went to New Orleans, almost a year to the day that Katrina hit. New Orleans is one of our favorite cities and it is really hard to see all of the devistation. Anyway, then we moved to Michigan shortly there after.

So, we are planning to go out to dinner tomorrow night and maybe to a movie. So, here is to many many more years of happiness. I love you Mark!

P.S. Enjoy the pics below...

Our rings and...let me explain the picture above it. The camera had a timer on it and Mark had set it up to go off and he ran to where I was, well, he slipped right when he got there and the camera took the picture. We really didn't know what the picture was going to be of but we have laughed about this for 6 years!!! Posted by Picasa
